Top 10 Crazy Concept Cars of 2016
If you’re getting tired of Honda Accords and Toyota Corollas, these crazy concept cars of 2016 may whet your appetite for something new. From the unrealistic vision concepts, to near-production previews, automakers are constantly trying to show off design and tech prowess with concept cars. Here are 10 of our favorite 2016 concept cars.
Buick Avista Concept
The Buick Avista is like a more elegant, futuristic Camaro. Even if this car is out of your league, it’s hard not to have a crush on this luxurious concept that was unveiled at NAIAS 2016. Based on the platform of the Chevy Camaro, the Avista is powered by a twin-turbo V6 that will produce around 400 hp. If GM hopes to update and modernize the Buick brand, this car is a huge step in the right direction. For now, we’ll write love letters to this car (and her dad, General Motors) hoping we can go on a date someday.
Nissan Titan Warrior Concept
Soon after Nissan released the redesigned 2016 Nissan Titan, they gave us a hard core, unapologetically aggressive Titan concept. The Nissan Titan Warrior Concept takes the traditional Titan to the extreme with modern styling cues and even great off-road capability. While we doubt this version of the Titan will ever enter production, it will interesting to see if this truck foreshadows the future of Nissan truck design.
Jeep Trailcat Concept
Put a 707 hp Hellcat engine in a Jeep Wrangler, and this is the result. Unveiled as 1 of 7 concept Jeeps, this 2016 concept is just as comfortable crawling up rocks and it is flying in a straight line. With Dodge Viper bucket seats, giant tires, Fox shocks, fog lamps, rock rails, and more, this Trailcat is a 2016 concept car unlike any other.
Lincoln Navigator Concept
Making the production Lincoln Navigator jealous, this Lincoln Navigator Concept is a luxury carriage unlike anything available today. This concept comes with awesome, unique features like gullwing doors, deployable thigh supports, steps, huge entertainment screens on the back of every seat, and much more.
Opel GT Concept
This is a 2016 concept car you may not have heard of. Opel is essentially Buick for Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. This GM subsidiary caught our attention with the incredibly unique Opel GT. Released at the Geneva International Auto Show, this sports car has crazy features like red front tires and translucent windows. A car like this will probably never see production in the near future, but we can dream, right?
BMW Vision Next 100
To commemorate BMW’s 100th birthday, BMW created the BMW Vision Next 100 Concept (yes, that’s the name). While the name is clunky, the car is anything but. This BMW is straight out of a sci-fi novel. Rather than try to describe the features of this 2016 concept, take a look at BMW’s video for yourself.
Porsche Mission E Concept
We know, we know. The Porsche Mission E isn’t technically a concept car of 2016, but this car is too good to not mention again. According to a Porsche press release, this concept car will go into production by the end of the decade! We can’t wait to see this all-electric sports car in action. Read our original article about the Mission E to see all the pictures and specs of this beautiful upcoming Porsche.
Subaru XV Concept
Of the 2016 concept cars on this list, this is one of the most realistic. Showing some resemblance to the current Subaru Crosstrek, we think the Subaru XC Concept truly foreshadows Subaru’s future SUV design. It’s modern and sleek without being unrealistically complex. The orange, light blue, and gray color scheme is great, along with angular headlamps, incredible rims, and more. This concept SUV is covered with Subaru DNA.
Acura Precision Concept
After releasing the already futuristic Acura NSX, Acura presented the Acura Precision Concept to showcase the company’s vision for the future. The complex and angular design of this sedan is extremely ambitious, unlike anything on the road today. The suicide doors open up to a spaceship-looking cockpit. It’s quite exciting to imagine a future where cars like this are considered “production cars.”
Kia GT Concept
While Kia isn’t known for huge fast engines and race-track performance, that could soon change. Check out the Kia GT Concept. People fell in love with the concept, so we’re really hoping Kia will take a shot at this concept car. As expected, this concept is a performance oriented sports coupe. This Kia GT Concept has a stylish Kia fascia, sporty and simple body, aggressive stance, suicide doors, a futuristic interior, and fan-blade rims.
