The 2015 Chicago Auto Show has now come and gone but before leaving town, Ford Motor Co. picked up a few important awards. For the 10th consecutive year the Chicago Auto Show lets consumers vote on a total of five categories from the show: Best All-New Production Vehicle, Best Concept Vehicle, Best Green Vehicle, Best Exhibit, and Vehicle I’d Most Like to Have in My Driveway. Of these five awards, Ford took home an astounding three from that list.
Best All-New Production Vehicle – Ford GT
First introduced just a few weeks prior at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, The Ford GT continued the fan-fair in Chicago as 38% of voters listed the Ford GT as their Best All-New Production Vehicle. This award is considered by many to be the equivalent of the “Best in Show” award. Ford announced that production would begin shortly and has pegged the Canadian firm Multimatic near Toronto to produce these fan-favorites. Final production numbers are unclear but it looks like even Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, who expressed his interest on Twitter, will have to wait as anticipation continues to grow for the Ford GT.
Best Exhibit – Ford
With the GT as the centerpiece and the help of a few additional interactive displays, Ford won the award for Best Exhibit. In total there were over 40 displays from different manufactures this year at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. Hank the Robot, a Mustang Dynamometer, a mini F-150 test track for kids and even a few Ford Mustang themed pinball machines helped draw fans into the ‘Blue Oval’ display. Even the crew at Carsforsale.com who attended got pulled in by the lights and sounds coming from the pinball machines.
This is the first time since 2010 that Ford won Best Exhibit, when they went on to also clinch the award for Best All-New Production Vehicle that same year. Since 2010, the Best Exhibit Award has been given to Jeep in 2011-2013 and Chevrolet in 2014.
Vehicle I’d Most Like to Have in My Driveway – Ford Mustang GT350
This is the stiffest competition to win as there are hundreds of vehicles represented at the show. Also, not many of the vehicles on display were ones that someone wouldn’t like to park in their driveway. This year, Ford fans helped the Mustang GT350 escape and win the 3rd award to Ford at the show based on consumer’s votes. This was a close competition between the Ford Mustang GT350 and the Bugatti Veyron, who won this same award last year.
Ending on Feb. 22nd, the Chicago Auto Show was a huge success with many great first-look opportunities such as the 2016 Honda Pilot, 2016 Acura RDX and many others.
