2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV: Fast Facts
Beating the Tesla Model 3 to the punch, the Chevrolet Bolt EV hit the market this year with an EPA estimated range of 238 miles. With pricing coming in around $30,000 after tax rebates, the Bolt becomes one of the most affordable all-electric vehicles in its class. This all-new trendy crossover hatchback model for Chevy includes a low-mounted battery pack, front electric motor, and stylish interior, offering drivers great range and technology.
Don’t get confused with the Bolt’s (also ‘green’) brother the Volt, Chevy’s hybrid, which made its way into the marketplace in 2011.
Here are the Fast Facts behind the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV.
Chevrolet Bolt EV: Fast Facts
- MSRP: $36,620 (Federal and State incentives offered)
- MPGe: 129 MPGe City and 110 MPGe Highway
- Range: 238 miles battery-only
- Motor: Electric – 200 hp; 266 lb-ft, automatic
- Battery: Lithium Ion – 60 kWh 350 V lithium-ion

With seating for five, the Bolt has ample seating in its large interior. The flat floor offers increased interior proportions, with great head and leg room. The rear hatch offers plenty of flexible cargo space. This paired with the 60/40 split fold down rear seats offers great space with a maximum of 56.6 cu. ft. of volume. A false floor is also located in the hatch area, for additional space to keep items well stowed.
Take a seat behind the wheel and the cockpit comes alive with a 10.2-inch center console and 8.0-inch instrument cluster screen. The infotainment system includes Bluetooth connectivity, onboard Wi-Fi, MyChevrolet mobile app, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capabilities. The system itself does not include navigation or maps, as it relies on a paired smartphone.
Crossover styled, the Bolt’s exterior height and short wheelbase at times offers a bit of confusion when it comes to its body profile. Overall the Bolt takes strong cues from the Chevy family, with headlights like the Cruze and the grille similar to the Volt. The LED tail lights are a personal favorite, taking this set of wheels from techy and green, to hip and trendy.
Claiming to make it over 200 miles on a single charge, the Bolt offers multiple charging options. Usage of the 240-volt/32-amp charging unit will push about 25 miles per hour of charging time. The DC Fast Charging stations offer about 90 miles of range in approximately 30 minutes of charge time. The internal screens offer energy detail screens, to assure you are aware of the energy used, distance travelled, energy history, and even offer an energy usage score to help you evaluate consumption.
One of the most interesting parts of the electric vehicle experience is the regenerative options. “Regenerative” is the ability to recoup energy while slowing down and/or shifting, and it is constantly evolving. The Regan on Demand system in the Bolt offers a pull of the paddle on the steering wheel, to slow down without the brake. Also included is one-pedal driving, which gives the driver the ability to ease off the accelerator slow and come to a complete stop.
Pending a review by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Bolt has not yet received safety ratings. Chevy touts great safety technologies at both the radar and camera levels, as well as a 10 air bag system and a frame built on advanced high-strength steel. Surround Vision technology offers a look at the vehicle’s entire perimeter for increased visibility at low-speeds and when parking.
